Now I will show you how to install a GUI for your Debian Installation on your rooted G1.
The Instructions below are for all custom Roms.

Lxde GUI on G1
Prerequisites:
Rooted G1 – Tutorial Here
Debian Installed – Tutorial Here
Resized Debian Image – Tutorial Here
Android VNC Viewer – Free on Market.
Swapper – Free on Market
Recommendation: I really recommend being on a wifi connection for this. It’ll speed up the downloading of the necessary files.

My tutorial for installing debian on your G1 gives you a basic installation with a 750MB image file. It’s not too much room to play with. If you want to install a GUI you should have atleast a 1.5GB image size. Since most people don’t have 6gb or 8gb sdcards, My tutorial here will show you how to create a 1.5gb image size. A 4gb card should be sufficient for this.
The problem: Most people don’t have linux computers or don’t want to download (although free!) a linux distro and install it.
The Solution: Your fabulous G1 runs off linux! You can use your G1 to run the Linux commands Needed!

The Instructions for installing Linux on your G1 below are for Cupcake and Hero builds.
Files Needed: Debian for G1 (524)
FOR DONUT BUILDS (Like CyanogenMod 4.2.7.1)
- Download this file-> Debian for Donut Files (442)
- Extract the 2 files inside and place them in your DEBIAN folder replacing the other ones already there. (Do this after step 3 below).
- Follow steps 4-13 below and IGNORE the Errors.
FOR CUPCAKE AND HERO BUILDS:
- Download the needed file
- Extract the debian folder to your desktop
- Copy the debian folder to the root of your sdcard
