Install Android 2.2.1 on G1

This Tutorial will show you how to install Android 2.2.1 on your G1 / HTC Dream.
Many Thanks go out to Cyanogen for his great work.

The steps are fairly simple.

If you already have a rooted G1, upgraded recovery, SPL & Radio then just download the file below. Head into your Recovery and flash the .zip file.

For those who are starting fresh Follow the following tutorial: Root & Upgrade your G1.

Then do the following:

Download:

Gapps-mdpi-tiny-20101020-signed (9)
Update-cm-6.1.0-ds-signed (15)

  1. Place them on the root of your SD Card.
  2. Turn Off Phone
  3. Start up in recovery mode by holding Home and pressing Power.
  4. Wipe Data (recommend Wipe for a major system upgrade, eliminates any problems)
  5. Next, Choose “Flash any .zip”
  6. Select Update-cm-6.1.0-ds-signed.zip Flash/Install it. DON’T REBOOT
  7. Now Choose “Flash any .zip” again.
  8. Select Gapps-mdpi-tiny-20101020-signed.zip

Once it’s done, Reboot your phone.

Enjoy Android 2.2.1 on your G1 / HTC Dream!

How to Root & Upgrade your G1

This is my full tutorial on how to root and upgrade your G1. This tutorial will show you how to root your phone, upgrade your recovery, upgrade your radio, install the “Danger SPL”, & upgrade your Rom.

@ the time of this posting, the most recent Recovery was AmonRa’s 1.70 and most Recent Rom was Cyanogenmod 4.2.15.1 (There are other versions of CM like version 5 and 6 which you can find in the downloads section)

Prerequisites:

- A G1 / HTC Dream
- Minimum of 1GB SD Card (class 6 is preferable). Backup any files on the SD Card as you will be formatting it.
- About 10-15mins of time and Patience. This is not something you rush through. Please follow each step exactly as written.

Create & Change G1 Splash Screen

This tutorial will teach you how to change the normal G1 Splash screen into a custom splash screen.

Prerequisites:

- Have ADB setup and working properly
- Rooted G1
- You’ll also need Fastboot. Get it from The Downloads Section and place it in your /tools folder if it’s not already there.
- Mac/Linux/Unix Users: Must have ImageMagick installed and setup correctly. http://www.imagemagick.org

Install Amon-RA Recovery

How to Install

Pre-Requisite: Have ADB Setup already. If you don’t, please read ADB 4 Dummies.

Download: Recovery-RA-passion-v2.2.1 (8)

Copy recovery-RA-passion-v2.2.1.img to a location where fastboot can find it. Your desktop would be the easiest place for this tutorial.

Open a command prompt or terminal window and cd desktop

Boot your phone into fastboot mode (power on while holding the trackball)

Connect your phone via usb to your pc/mac/linux

type: fastboot devices
(to make sure that fastboot “sees” your phone)

type: fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-passion-v2.2.1.img
wait about 30 seconds to 1 minute (longer the better to be safe)

type: fastboot reboot recovery
(If that command doesn’t work, just type fastboot reboot. once your phone reboots. Turn it off and boot back up while holding the VOL-DWN Button. This should boot you into the bootloader. Then scroll down with the vol-dwn button to RECOVERY and select it with the power button. Your custom recovery should boot.)

Done.

You can also just install ROM MANAGER from the Market and use it to install Clockworkmod Recovery or Amon RA.

Update your N1 Radio

Upgrading your Nexus One Radio is a breeze. I’ve included the newest version.

Please download the following file: Radio 32.50.00.32u 5.12.00.08 (10)

Instructions are simple:
After you download the file, place it on the root of your SDCard.
Reboot/Boot your phone into recovery (vol down + pwr)
Select to install a Zip file in the recovery menu.
Choose radio_32.50.00.32U_5.12.00.08.zip
once done, reboot.
Enjoy your new radio!

***Most roms now require the newest radio, especially the MIUI Rom.***
